Happy Friday!

I’m taking a few minutes not just to say “bye” to the work week, but “adios” to September.

I’m looking forward to a more productive October.

Where ever you are, enjoy.  Do a little Friday Dance!

Trillions on Trillions and not the national debt.

I was listening to the Talking heads discussing how stupid it was that the flood victims in Texas built where they built, and why didn’t they have flood insurance?  They actually were having a discussion on why Americans should not be able to build homes near rivers, the ocean, or the gulf……..really?  The stupidity seems to originating from the Talking heads.

Did you know that most of the people, in Houston, who flooded during this event were not in the designated National Flood Map zones? Their homes were high and dry during the last three big rain events.  Their mortgage companies didn’t require flood insurance, and their was no indication that their homes were at risk.

Did you know that a large majority of homes that were flooded, were flooded on purpose by the Army Corps of Engineers who schedule water releases from two reservoirs that were at risk of failing?  How can a home owner insure themselves from that type of event?

Did you know that the national weather service added a new color to their rainfall charts?  Black, they added black to show the areas that received over 50 inches of rain.

Outside of a city that is up in the mountains with incredible drainage, 50 inches of rain would flood just about anything.

Who would expect that much rain?

Pie, And a frosted mug of Milk

Royers Cafe, Round Top, TX

One of those places that have been around forever, and has never changed.

Pie, first and foremost.

Atmosphere. 15 tables, and all the pie memorabilia you can handle.

Menu.  Un-freaking-believable

Music.  Roy Orbison, 50-60’s Swing, Rock, and beach music.

Friendly service.

Apple, Blueberries with lemon cream cheese filling, cherry, Wild Berry Smash, peach, pecan, chocolate caramel crunch, the list was endless!

Your own personal Sin-a-mon bun on the side.

The Menu, humor, and indication of the fun ready to be had.

Shrimp stuffed quail, rack of lamb, this is quite a Tony menu for a town of 133 population.

You don’t “get no sides, you get pasta” sort of place.  And there is “no buckshot” in the quail….which would be disturbing if they used buckshot to bag the quail.  Birdshot anyone?

So if you want something that Oinks and Chirps, or Some Stuff that Swims, OR Pie, this was an outstanding lunch stop.  I had to have a glass of milk with my cherry pie.  They served it in a frosty mug along side of my warm cherry pie.  I was pretty much worthless for the next hour….pie hangover.

We weren’t even out to have a fun lunch, we were out on exploratory, canvassing sales calls!  We stopped in on a happy chance, and it was better than I remembered.  The best news was, the only bank in town received us well, and we were able to get an appointment to have a formal meeting in August, and have a chance for more yummy goodness.

I’m ready for my next road trip. 😊

A little sight seeing

Driving around Detroit, we found the Motown museum.

We saw a beautiful Church in Ohio.  Attending a wedding in an old church with no A/C on the first 90 degree day, it was a wee bit hot.  The Priest was really cute, he cut the service short stating the bride and groom would be just as married if he spoke for 20 minutes or 60.  I adore clergy with a sense of humor.

We enjoyed a bit of Americana at the War Memorial in Findlay, OH.  I adore small towns with a sense of honor and history.

Lest We Forget.  Three haunting words in the midst of the flags, the names of the fallen who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and the tribute from their grateful neighbors and friends.

Finishing up the day with a local brew.  Some of the names made me smile.  I’m glad they make an IPA for a Rough Day.  But I went with the Fathead’s Sunshine Day Dream.
Have you seen anything good in this Lovely Month of June?

A Nerd is Born

Our last 3 frames of honey this season have been squeezed, and the wax has been rendered.

So what do I do with all that wax?

Lotion anyone?  Solid massage bar anyone?

I got on You Tube and Pinterest.  I watched videos, read recipes.

I had some silicon chocolate molds, and cupcake trays.

And here is batch number 2.

The heart is a skin- tightening, coffee, mocha heart.  It has Beeswax, honey, Shea butter, sweet almond oil, coffee, cocoa powder, and a splash of vitamin E.  It is designed to be used pre-shower, so you can rinse off the caffeine and cocoa powder.  You could eat it, if you didn’t mind the fresh ground coffee beans.

The Dragon Fly is a Lemon-Rosemary lotion bar with Beeswax, Shea butter, sweet almond oil, Lemon essential oil and Rosemary leaves and flowers.  It is also designed for use pre-shower.

The wax and oils melt with the heat of the skin.  It is an indulgence for relaxation and enjoyment.

They are being testing next week by my focus group (Guinea pig, God Bless them) friends who put up with my shenanigans, and indulge me as I learn.

If someone had told me 2 years ago that I wouldn’t be traveling, employed, or in the mortgage industry anymore….I would have told them they were stupid.

Now I’m using my good LeCruset to make lotion bars.  I’m considering an etsy shop.  I’m seriously looking to market what I have learned in the last 12 months.  If this just keeps my fingers busy and makes my friends and me happy….I think it would be good.  Who knows.

Silly Sunday

I’m not sure if it’s all the heat, the sweat, the physical labor, or lack of sleep….but this made me giggle.

The Sun Shines out my Bum.
