I had a giggle at my own expense this morning.
I was discussing my favorite shows and why, when I realized that I am quite “diverse” in my tastes….
My two favorite shows. TA DA!
1. Downton Abbey
I love the setting, the style, the wit, and the strong female characters. It gets a little hokey with the m’lord and all, but the drama is fun. Bad guys are bad, and the good guys are very flawed.
My latest indulgence and newest favorite!
2. Sons of Anarchy
No really, Sons of Anarchy, I know. You were not expecting that.
I love motorcycles, the wit, the strong female characters, and the crime drama. The good guys are quite uniquely flawed, the bad guys are very bad, and the drama is over the top.
My husband busted out laughing at me, and warned me not to say anything to the folks we ride motorcycles with, but….they already know I am unapologetically myself. God bless them for being so kind to me. I love cartoons, masterpiece theater, and violent motorcycle dramas. I write poetry, I read everything from Emerson and Frost to Clive Cussler, Vince Flynn, and The Bible, I like wine, and my husband hates when I sing out loud, but I sing anyway. I am a novice motorcycle rider, a reasonable gardener, a very good cook, and a very proud, loving mom.
BTW, I ride a Dyna too. The wide glides, and bobbers in Sons Of Anarchy are awesome. I got a kick out of the fact that I picked out my bike before I watched the show. My bike is a bit too sparkly for Samcro, they would not approve, but my street bob is perfect for me.
Still….the contrast between Downton Abbey and Sons of Anarchy is wide, but their similarities and appeal are universal. It is the setting and vocabulary that sets them apart.
Have you ever found yourself liking what appeared to be opposite things?
What do you think of Downton Abbey? Love it or hate it?
What about Samcro? Have you gotten caught up? Love it or hate it? It is intense.
I would love to hear your thoughts?
I am still laughing at myself. I think I might fire up my Downton Abbey season one to refresh myself on the drama about Mary.
